Description Thesis-PhD
The experiment was conducted at Model Floriculture Center of the University during 2009 and 2010 with an objective to study the effect of various doses of gamma rays on vegetative and floral characters in different varieties of gerbera. The experimental material consisted of uniform suckers of 9 varieties of gerbera treated with gamma rays doses (0.5 and 1.5Kr) planted in low cost polyhouse immediately after the treatment. All the recommended package of practices were followed throughout the year. The findings indicated that gamma radiation treatment 0.5 Kr had significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, flower stalk length, flower duration and number of flowers per plant per year which was the best to obtain better vegetative growth and floral characters whereas, higher dose i.e.1.5Kr was detrimental for vegetative and floral characters.
