Description Exposing the plants of Potentilla astrisanguinea Lodd. variety argyrophylla (Wall. ex. Lehm) Griers to temperatures of 4 and -20 °C led to an increase in SOD activity compared to the control plants kept at 25 °C. Concomitantly, there was induction of a new, copper-zinc-SOD isozyme in Potentilla. Feeding the plant with cycloheximide stopped the induction of the new isozyme, indicating the possibility of a nuclear-encoded protein. Interestingly, the induced isozyme showed a prominent activity when the gel was developed at -20 °C.
