Description |
Production of quality plants through tissue culture techniques in the country are now the demand of post GATT era. Himachal has a pride to be considered as a model for the hill states in the area of hi- tech floriculture. Production of tissue culture plants under the agroclimatic conditions of Himachal has a high potential to augment income generation and employment opportunities. Different cost components were calculated for the production of lilium, orchids and bamboos through tissue culture techniques. Net returns, benefit cost ratio (BCR), pay back period, break even production (BEP) and rate of return on capital were calculated. All these indicators were showing the economic feasibility of production of these plants through tissue culture techniques. Its profitability could be further enhanced through management practices and giving financial help to farmers for setting up the tissue culture labs. |
