Description The ship reported wave data published in Indian Daily Weather Report were compiled for the period of 16 years from 1968 to 1983 for 5 degrees x 5 degrees grids around the Indian coast. The distribution of wave power potential during the three different seasons viz. southwest monsoon, northeast monsoon and nonmonsoon period were computed for various regions in the form of 10 grids and are presented here. The study shows that average annual wave power potential per metre length of the wave crest along the Indian coast vary between 11.4 KW to 15.2 KW. The highest potential of 15.2 KW was observed at grid 6 off south Kerala and southernmost region of Tamil Nadu coast. The minimum wave power of 11.4 KW was observed at grid 3 off Andhra Coast. The seasonal distribution shows that the wave power potential is high during the southwest monsoon season constituting to about 55 to 65% of the total of the year
