Description Occurrence and abundance of marine Cladocera in several estuaries along the south-west coast of India is presented and compared with their distribution in the coastal waters. One peculiar feature observed was their absence in the estuaries during high saline premonsoon period and tolerance to low salinity. Since the resting eggs of cladocera can be successfully hatched in the laboratory and reproduce at a very high rate, they form ideal organisms for mass culture
