Description |
Detrital carbon in the Andaman Sea constitutes about 92% of the total particulate carbon while phytoplankton and zooplankton constitute small fractions of the total suspended matter. Latitudinal relationship between phytoplankton and zooplankton is inverse. The Andaman Sea is oligotrophic in nature with low primary and secondary productivity and hence the production of large quantities of detritus appears to supplement the nutritional inadequacy of these waters
