Description A strain of Micrococcus sp. was isolated for its capability of side chain degradation of cholesterol. This strain was characterized and identified as Micrococcus roseus. It was found to be the best strain for the production of androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione and androst-4-ene-3,17-dione compared with other Micrococcus strains.
