Description Soaking rice straw for 18 h in a carboxin suspension in water (5 mg a.i./l) effectively controlled the growth of S. rolfsii which occurred as a contaminant during the culture of P. flabellatus. Carboxin delayed sporophore formation by 2-3 days but did not affect total yield. No detectable residues were found in the mushrooms so grown. Treatment of the straw with hot water at 60 deg C for 10 min completely controlled the contaminant without affecting mushroom growth or yield; 20 min treatments witb hot air at 60 deg or heating with steam to 75-80 deg did not.
