Description |
Apple is the number one fruit crop of Himachal Pradesh both in terms of quality and quantity, and ranks fourth in India in terms of fruit production. It occupies about 40 per cent of the total area under fruit crops and contributes more than 90 per cent of total fruit production in the State. Although, the area under apple has increased from 3,025 to 72,406 hectares during the last three decades in Himachal Pradesh but the production has not increased proportionately in comparison to advanced apple growing countries of the world. The reasons for low apple production could be many but one of the reasons is the damage caused by insect-pests and diseases.
