Description |
India accounts for 2.8 per cent of total land area on global basis, yet it is to support 16 per cent of human and 15 per cent of live stock population. On account of such an uneven proportion the country is witnessing a huge mismatch between demand and supply of the basic needs apart from extensive abuse and overuse of its resource base. The indiscriminate exploitation of the resources, both renewable and non-renewable in the recent past has not merely led to the shortage of basic needs but many concomitant environmental disasters as well.
