Description Water occupies a central position in environmental continuum and so do the water resources and their proper utilization. Hydrologic cycle is not always punctual in delivering precipitation to earth's surface and drought so caused is one of the major deterrents to adequate crop production. The source for all the surface and ground water is precipitation; hence, water as a source is one and is indivisible. For sustainable agricultural production, it is necessary to manage the use of water. Optimum scheduling of irrigation in relation to available water is an important aspect of' efficient water-management and water use efficiency in conjunction with other factors of production like fertilization.
