Description |
Amongst the various insect pests infesting cabbage, Brevicoryne brassicae (Linnaeus) (Hom0ptera:Aphididae) is considered as a pest of economic importance (Bonnemaison, 1964; Jasrotia and Suri, 2002). Both the nymphs and adults suck vital plant sap resulting in stunted growth or deformation of plant parts finally affecting the overall yield. The damage is compounded when the crop is attacked by two more aphids, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) and Lipaphis erysimi (Kaltenbach). Apart from damage caused by feeding on the crop, they also act as vector of 23 viral diseases of crucifers (Chalfant and Chapman, 1962; Gupta 1978).
