Description |
The domestic goats (Capra hircus) of India are believed to have descended from Bezosar (Randhawa, 1982) The Harappan excavation terracottas included goats among many others, suggesting that goats were domesticated in India as early as 2000 B.C. Goats form an integral component of the livestock population of the countly. They play a vital role in the socioeconomic life of the tribals and marginal farmers; which constitute about forty per cent population of the country. Goats are valued for their meat, milk, skin, hair and wool.
