Himachal pradesh has taken a big lead especially in apple cultivation during the past two decades, could be assumed as apple state of India. It has expanded from 3,029 hectars during 1962-1963 to 35,076 hectares during 1975-76, and further envisages to increaseto 1,25,749 hectares by the end of fifth-five year plan.
