Description |
Pheromones play a vital role in many important behavioural and physiological processes of insects. Our knowledge of behaviour-modifying chemicals, part, particularly of sex pheromones, has only recently grown in a spectacular way. Over 600 insect sex pheromones are now known (Roelofs, 1981) and the number is likely to increase even more over the next few years.
