Description |
Apple (Mulus x domestics Borkh.) is the most important temperate fruit crop of India. It is extensively cultivated in the North Western hill regions covering the major areas in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and hilly parts of Uttaranchal with an estimated production of 1,300 thousand metric tonnes (FAO, 1998). Himachal Pradesh being endowed with highly congenial agroclimatic conditions, varying altitudes and topographic features, has a vast potential of producing quality fruits of sub-tropical to temperate climates.
