Description |
Trichogrammatids represent a large group of minute wasps that parasitize eggs of various insect pests of economic significance. These wasps vary from 0.40-0.70 mm in length and 0.15-0.25 mm in width across head. This group can be identified by 3-segmented tarsi, broad fore wings with pubescence in lines and the marginal and stigmal veins forming a single curve (Singh et al., 1994b). The female oviposits within the egg of the host. The egg stage lasts approximately one day, the larva feeds on the egg contents and passes through larval (3-4 days) and pupal (4-5 days) stages to emerge as an adult, which survives for 6-8 days. Thus, the life cycle is completed in 8-10 days within the host egg (Manjunath, 1991).
