The peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] is an attractive fruit in appearance with delicious taste and high nutritive values. It contains appreciable amounts of sugars, organic acids and vitamins and also rich in proteins and minerals. Among temperate fruits, peach has wide range of climatic adaptation and is one of the most important fruit crops of temperate regions of the world. In India, peach is cultivated mostly in the Himalayan regions, from Jammu & Kashmir and expanding up to North Eastern hills, however, some low chilling cultivars are also being grown successfully in the northern plains.
