Description |
Plum (Prunus salicina Lindl.) is an important fruit crop of temperate regions of world. It occupies a unique position among the stone fruits in world fruit production. Among stone fruits, it ranks next to peaches in economic importance. In India its cultivation is mainly confined to Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand in north India and to a limited extent in Nilgiri hills in south India. Santa Rosa is the most important commercially accepted cultivar of plum suitable for mid hills of Himachal Pradesh where it contributes considerably to the economy of orchardists.
