French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) commonly known as bean, snap bean, navy bean, common bean, string bean, garden bean, haricot bean and field bean, belongs to family leguminosae. According to Vavilov (1950) and Smart (1976) the primary center of origin of french bean is in Southern Mexico and Central America, while Peru-Bolivia-Ecuador region of American continent is considered to be the secondary center. Its immature, delicate and tender pods are used as vegetable.
