Description |
The olive tree (Olea europaea L.) belonging to family Oleaceae, is a relatively small evergreen free with silvery leaves and small white flowers, known for its longevity and liquid gold-oil. It is said to bear the "fruit of life". which has sustained the economy of millions of people in the Mediterranean. The botanical progenitor of the olive is thought to be the oleaster (Olea sylvestris L.) a wild type of olive with small, skinny fruit, still growing around the Mediterranean sea and occasionally used as a grafting stock.
