Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is a member of the family cucurbitaceae and is believed to be native of India or South Asia. It is extensively grown in tropical and sub-tropical parts of lk&ountry. Yearly 13,142,000 tonnes of cucumber is produced world wide in an area of 8,60,000 hectares (Anonymous, 1989). Cucumber occupies an area of 16,288 hectares with a total production of 1,05,690 tonnes in India (Gill and Tomar, 1991) and in an area of 2,500 hectares with a production of 30,000 tonnes in Himachal Pradesh.
