Description |
The American serpentine leafminer, Liriamyza tnfalii (Burgess) (Diptera, Agromyzidae) is one of the few polyphagous species of Agromyzidae reported as a cosmopolitan pest of field crops, vegetables, fruit crops, ornamentals and a number of weeds. The larvae feed on leafmesophyU tissues which may cause reduction in crop value or yield (Sp(!ncer, 1973). The fly causes severe losses to economically important vegetable crops like tomato, celery, melons, beans, pea, onion, pepper, brinjal, potato, lettuce, carrot, etc. and ornamentals like chrysanthemum, gerbera, gypsophila, marigold, etc. in many parts of the world (Minkenbergand Lenteren, 1986; Minkenberg, 1988; Saitoetal., 1996).
