Description Cole crops are an important group of cruciferous crops which include cabbage, cauliflower, knol-khol, broccoli, Brussel's sprout, etc. These crops are generally grown from November to February and are available for consumption in March-April. However, owing to the favorable climatic conditions prevailing in Himachal Pradesh, These crops are grown as off-season summer crops in the high-hill regions of this state. One of the important factors that limit the successful cultivation of the cole crops is a variety of insect pests which causes severe damage particularly to the off-season crops and results in low yield and at time complete failure of the crop. The four important lepidopteran pests that cause severe damage to cole crops are the cabbage butterfly, Pieris brassicae (L.) (Pieridae), diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Yponomeutidae), cabbage semilooper, Plusia orichalcea F. (Noctuidae) and armyworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hlibner)(Noctuidae).
