Description |
India is a predominantly agricultural country, where about 70 percent of human population is dependent on agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. It also occupies the top position with respect to cattle and buffalo population in the world. The country has captured first position in total milk production in the world but the average per animal production is incredibly low which is 181 and 438 kg in respect of cattle and buffaloes, respectively (Kurup. 2000). Precisely the low production of dairy stock is due to poor genetic potential, improper and inadequate nutrition, unscientific management and poor health cover. In order to increase the productivity of live stock, it is important to make improvements in different aspects of live stock production so as to ensure high genetic potential, balanced nutrition, scientific management and efficient health coverage. Milk production can be increased by 50 per cent by just ensuring balanced feeding.
