Description |
Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) a fruit of family Rosaccae, occupies an important place among the small fruits. The cultivated strawberry of today is a natural interspecific hybrid between the two octoploid (2n = 56) species F. virginiana and F. chiloensis. Besides quick returns, the strawberry fruit is attractive with distinct and pleasant aroma, flavour, and is rich in vitamin C and minerals. Strawberry fruits have a special demand by fruit processing industry for preparation of jams, jellies, candies, drinks and other products.
