Description |
Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) also called as egg plant is one of the popular vegetable grown in India. This is native to India (Zeven and Zhukousky, 1975). In the world it is grown on an area of about 1313 thousands hectares with an annual production of 21239 MT. In India it is grown on an area of about 425 thousand hectare area with annual production of 6100 MT (FAO, 1999). It is grown on commercial scale in an area of 255 hectares in low and mid hill areas of Himachal Pradesh with an annual production of 4350 tonnes (Anonymous, 1995).
