Rice-Wheat is an important cropping system in India occupying about 10.5 million hectare area and contributing substantially to national food basket (Katyal et al. 1998). In Himachal Pradesh, wheat occupies first position in acreage covering about 357.7 thousand hectare area (Anonymous, 1997-98); of which about 80 thousand come under rice-wheat cropping system (Thakur et al., 1994). The average yields of rice and wheat in Himachal Pradesh are 1346 kg/ha and 1403 kg/ha (Anonymous, 1997-98) which are far below than the national average of 2915 kg/ha and 2654 kg/ha respectively (Anonymous, 1997).
