Description |
Increased food grain production depends on judicious use of resources. The soil, climate, genotype and management factors determine the response of crops to irrigation, fertilizer and other inputs. Determining appropriate crop management strategies under uncertainties of weather and other resources, has major economic and environmental implications. Field experiments to evaluate agronomic practices are laborious, very much time consuming and expensive and require multi year data for verification. With today's advancement in technology, emphasis on use of computers to mimic growth of plants has become inevitable. Computer simulation models of soil-crop-atmosphere system are capable of working valuable contribution in determining crop responses and predicting crop performance in different regions, thereby greatly facilitating the task of optimising crop and nutrient management and also investigate environmental and production sustainability issues of agro-ecosystem.
