The tea plant Camellia sinensis (L.) 0. Kuntze is grown on an area of 425 thousand hectares in India and ranks first on the basis of cultivation and production in the world (Dudeja, 1996). In Himachal Pradesh it occupies an area of 2.063 thousand hectares owned by 1660 planters with 7.5 lakh kg as the total production (Jain, 1986).
