These are multipurpose animals, which provide meat, milk, hide, wool and fur for human consumption and also manure for the use in improving soil fertility and texture for crop production. The world population of sheep (1.2 billion) is approximately 2.5 times that of goats (500 millions). According to FAO statistics there are 120 million goats and 62.5 million sheep in India, which corresponds to 30.78% of total world population of goats and sheep.
