Description In hilly areas of India, floriculture has shown the potential to earn foreign exchange from export of cut flowers and floriculture produce. Likewise in Himachal Pradesh, floriculture has been a major thrust area from commercial point of view in recent years, as a result of which the area under floriculture has increased from 30 hectares in 1993-94 to 154 hectares in 2000-2001. In the fast developing floriculture industry, including H.P. Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) has emerged as one of the most important commercial flowers all over the world. Known as "Queen of the East", Chrysanthemum is ranked first in United States and Japan in value of the crop produced.
