Pomegranate {Punica granatum L.) which belongs to the family Punicaceae, is a species of fruit bearing deciduous shrub or small tree growing up to 5-8m long. Pomegranate is a favourite table fruit, grown commercially for its sweet acidic fruits and also valued for its medicinal properties. It is a rich source of carbohydrate, protein, fibre, mineral matter and vitamin C.
