Description Peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) is an important stone fruit grown under temperate and sub-tropical climate. It is cultivated in Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. In India, total cultivated area under peach is about 18,500 ha which produces 150,000 MT fruits annually (FAO,2006). In India, peach cultivation extends from Northern plains to an elevation of 2000 metres above mean sea level (Soodan et al., 1994). In Himachal Pradesh, peach is cultivated commercially in an approximate area of 4800 ha, which is scattered all over the state except the dry and cold regions of Lahaul&Spiti, Kinnaur, Pangi and Bharmour areas of Chamba district, with an annual production of about 6564 MT (Anonymous,2006). Due to its highly congenial agroclimatic conditions for the succesful cultivation and remunerative returns, in Rajgarh valley of Sirmour dirtrict of Himachal Pradesh is the main centre of peach production, and therefore is called the PEACH VALLEY OF HIMACHAL PRADESH where the crop is covering around 2849 ha area and contributing around 6367 MT production (Anonymous, 2006).
