Description |
Urdbean or blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) is an important self-pollinating diploid (2n=22). It foivns a significant component of the dietary requirement of people in India. Vavilov (1926) described Indian centre as a primary centre of origin of urdbean, and Central Asia as a secondary centre. Zukovskij (1962) opined that urdbean originated in India from its wild progenitor P. sublobatus.
