Description French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the important leguminous vegetable crops, grown throughout the world for its green pods as well as dry beans (rajmah) and is having its origins in South Mexico and Central America (Vavilov, 1951). It has gained increasing popularity due to its quality proteins and nutritional balance besides certain medicinal properties, which results in higher biological efficiency. The dry seeds are rich in proteins, calcium and iron and contain appreciable amount of vitamin B1 (Stiebeling and Clark, 1939). It occupies an important position among various kharif pulses and vegetable crops grown in temperate hills of India at an altitude ranging from 900-2500 m above mean sea level (Shanna and Sohi, 1989).
