We must eat daily, but the food is produced seasonally. Our daily diet must be balanced, but the seasonal food does not represent all food groups. Therefore, we must find ways and means of preserving food over long periods, which is safe and relatively nutritious. Exceptions perhaps water and some salts, the food constituents are of biological origin. Therefore, human foods are actually biological systems in whole and in part, which are consumed by a dynamic and disseminating biological system called human being.
