Strawberry {Fragaria x ahanassa Duch.) belongs to the family Rosaceae and all the cultivated varieties are octaploid (2n = 56). The fruit is a soft, highly perishable berry which is botanically an aggregate fruit, and plant is a small herb with shallow root system and perennial in nature. It occupies a significant place in fruit growing, since it can be cultivated in plains as well as in hills. Strawberry has gained the status of being one of the most important soft fruit of the world after grapes. Among the fruits, it gives,quickest returns in shortest possible time, as its fruit is the first of the season's homegrown supplies to reach the market. Strawberry fruits are attractive with distinct and pleasant aroma and delicate flavour. It is also rich source of vitamin C (40-120 mg/100 g of berries), vitamin B1, proteins and minerals like phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron.
