Bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) popularly known as Shimla Mirch is a high value vegetable and an important cash crop of temperate regions. It is a native of Mexico with secondary centre of origin in Guatemala (Bukasov, 1930 and Smith and Heiser, 1957). Bell pepper was introduced by the British in India in the 19th Century in Shimla hills. It is now widely cultivated in Himachal Pradesh, Kamataka, Tamil Nadu, Hills of Uttar Pradesh, Darjeeling district of West Bengal and Maharashtra.
