Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duchesne) is one of the most important soft fruit crops belonging to the family Rosaceae. It is cultivated in plains as well as in hills, in tropical, sub-tropical and temperate climates upto an elevation of 3000 in amsl (Darrow and Waldo, 1934). The total area under its cultivation is 228,555 ha with an annual production of 3,122.729 metric tonnes (FAO. 2001).
