Apple is one of the most important temperate fruite of the world. In India major apple growing areas are Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Kumaon hills of Uttar Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh has made tremendous progress in the production of high quality apple. The area under apple cultivation in Himachal Pradesh is about 90,000 ha with an annual production of 3,94,000 tonnes (Anonymous, 1999).
