The production of ornamental crops has increased considerably during the last decade and developed into major economic component of advanced agriculture in many countries. The global floral industry is worth US$ 40 billion. The world market is growing at around 15 per cent each year (Chadha and Bhattacharjee, 1995). The demand for high quality and disease free planting material, the high sanitary standards imposed by many countries for their importation and increasing amount of international trade, have highlighted the significance of virus diseases in ornamental crops.
