Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is one of the most important and widely grown vegetable crops of the world. The crop is native to central and South America (Vavilov, 1951). Fresh fruits of tomato are in greater demand round the year and throughout the country. In India, it is a prime vegetable and occupies an area of 4.66 lakh hectares with annual production of 8.27 millions tonnes (Anonymous, 2000).
