Description |
Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. Italica Plenck) is an important vegetable crop of cole group. This crop is native of Southern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean. However, United States is the World's largest producer of broccoli; other major growing areas are Italy, Northern Europe and Cooler regions of the Far East. It is considered to be a rich source of proteins, minerals, vitamins as well as organoleptic properties (Feher, 1985).
