The citrus fruits, history of which dates back to ancient civilizations, have originated in Southeast Asia, China, and the Malayan Archipelago (Ting and Rouseff, 1986). Today, citrus fruits can be produced in most subtropical regions. The world's citrus-producing areas in the Northern hemisphere include Northern Mexico, Southern United States, the Carribean region, the Mediterranean region of Southern Europe, Northern Africa and Southern Asia, whereas, in the Southern hemisphere, they include the Northern part of South America, South Africa and most of the Australian continent.
