Subject 633.52 Flax

Description In Himachal Pradesh, delayed sowing of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) due to late harvest of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and excess moisture causes heavy reduction in yield. Different rice establishment methods or cultures have been developed to suit specific environment and socio-economic conditions of farmers. Under irrigated conditions, transplanting of nursery seedlings and direct sowing of sprouted seeds in puddled soil are common methods of rice establishment, in general in H.P. and particular in Kangra district. In areas receiving adequate rainfall, direct sowing of seeds in unpuddled soil and then puddling after the onset of monsoon is practiced. In low rainfall areas, dry sowing of rice seeds is done.
