Description The Walnut (Juglans regia L.) belongs to the family Juglandaceae and is native to Persia and North Western Himalayas. It is a very nutritious nut fruit. Its kernels contain 64.0 per cent fats,14.8 per cent proteins, 15.8 per cent carbohydrates and 631 calories of energy per 100 g (Watt and Merrill, 1963). The kernels are consumed fresh, used in confectionary and for extracting edible oil. The tree yields valuable timber, which is most suitable for carving, making furniture and the butt of guns.
