Description |
Acacia catechu Willd., commonly known as khair, is one of the important plants of the Indian sub-continent. It is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree belonging to the family leguminosae. Its Indian vernacular names in different zones are khair, khoir, kheriya, khoiree etc. It is amongst the primary group of multipurpose trees, well accepted and extensively planted under afforestation and number of agroforestry systems. Khair is found growing naturally all over the Indian sub-continent in certain terrain experiencing, neither too much rains nor any water-logging conditions. Khair is a slow growing, xerophytic tree having a light, feathery crown.
