Description Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.), belongs to the family Rosaceae and is one of the most important fruit crops of mid hills and dry temperate regions of India. It was introduced in India by the European settlers and Missionaries in the late 19th century. In India, apricot is being grown commercially in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttaranchal and to a limited extent in North-Eastern hills. Apricot can be grown successfully at an altitude between 900-2000 meter above mean sea level. In Himachal Pradesh, it occupies an area of 3588 ha with an annual production of 1947 metric tonnes (Anonymous, 2003). The fruits of apricot are attractive, delicious and highly nutritious. Apricot is a rich source of vitamin-A, carbohydrates, proteins, phosphorus and niacin (Teskey and Shoemaker, 1972).
