| Description |
Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) belongs to the family Rosaceae and all the cultivated varieties are octaploid (2n = 56). Botanically, it is an aggregate fruit and plant is a small herb with shallow root system and perennial in nature. The strawberry fruit is attractive with a distinct pleasant aroma, delicate flavour and rich in vitamin C (40-120 mg/100 g berries), vitamin B, proteins and minerals like phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron.
